WCA Students Aim High!

WCA Drone Program

Each summer, the skies above Wimauma Community Academy hum with possibility. Now in its fourth year, the Academy’s Drone Program has become more than just a seasonal activity—it’s a launching pad for curiosity, creativity, and community connection.

The program, guided by RCMA’s IT Director Scott Olson, is once again calling on local talent to inspire the next generation of tech-savvy learners. What makes this initiative special is not just the technology involved, but the people who make it personal. This summer, that person is Luis Javier Rosa.

Rosa, the owner of Safety Pool Experts—a company committed to protecting children through residential pool safety—brings a unique blend of professional experience and personal passion to the drone program. A drone enthusiast himself, Rosa uses drones in his business and as a recreational hobby, making him a natural mentor for young students eager to learn.

His mission this summer? To help students create a short, engaging video tour of their school, produced entirely by the drone club. It’s an imaginative project that combines technology, storytelling, and school pride—while giving students a hands-on lesson in how drones are used in the real world.

More than just a summer diversion, the drone program teaches safety, responsibility, and practical skills. With community partners like Rosa stepping up, it’s clear the program isn’t just growing—it’s taking off.

We look forward to seeing what this year’s students create. If past summers are any indication, the results will be nothing short of uplifting.
