For the first time, six teachers from Spain are working at the Academies of RCMA. Their teaching backgrounds and mastery of the Spanish language in the midst of a nationwide teacher shortage make them ideal employees for our dual-language program.
The Visiting Teachers from Spain program is an international initiative sponsored by the Education Office of the Embassy of Spain in the U.S. and the U.S. Department of Education.
The teachers from Spain are given an opportunity for professional development and personal growth. RCMA benefits by having a larger pool of teachers to recruit from.
In addition, our visiting teachers foster cultural acceptance and diversity within our schools.
“It’s a benefit to have teachers native to Spain in our schools,” says Juana Brown, RCMA’s Director of Charter Schools. “Students will better understand how the Spanish-speaking world is very diverse, with many of our teachers coming from different Spanish-speaking countries, especially now, with each of these teachers coming from a different area of Spain. The visiting team itself is very diverse and ranges from teachers who taught English to high school students to another who has a background as both an educator and an actor.”
The teachers have made a commitment for the 2022-2023 school year, but their contracts can be extended.
