IMMOKALEE AND WIMAUMA (June 7, 2022) – RCMA announces that the Interfaith Social Action Council in Sun City Center on May 3 donated $10,000 toward the sports pavilion at its Wimauma Community Academy.

The K-8 charter school serves 345 children of rural, low-income families with a bilingual, bi-cultural curriculum. Playing sports during physical education classes and afterschool programs helps students learn about healthy lifestyles, setting goals, resilience and teamwork. The school has award-winning sports teams, including its street hockey team which became the Central Florida Charter Athletic League champions in 2022.

The 52 ’x 90’ sports court has been built, and RCMA is now raising funds for a steel protective cover estimated at $323,000.

Members of Beth Israel Jewish Congregation, Prince of Peace Catholic, Redeemer Lutheran, St. Andrew Presbyterian, St. John the Divine Episcopal, Trinity Baptist, Unitarian Universalist, SouthShore United Church of Christ, and United Methodist houses of worship serve on the Interfaith Social Action Council.
