IMMOKALEE – Zulaika Quintero, principal of RCMA’s Immokalee Community School, will be featured in Family Pictures USA, a new PBS project that explores families around the country through the lens of family photo albums. Six of the school’s students also appear in the episode with her.
Family Pictures Southwest Florida will debut at 10 p.m. on Aug. 13 on WGCU HD and repeat on the dates below.
A resident of Immokalee, Quintero learned about the program from a librarian at the Immokalee Branch Library who has known her for many years. Quintero showed producers photo albums of her family going back three generations and was selected for the episode.
Quintero was a born in Zacatecas, Mexico, into a migrant family. She moved with her parents throughout Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina, Tennessee and Missouri as they picked bell peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes and sweet potatoes. An RCMA employee since 2010, Quintero visits and sometimes still assists with her family’s work during her summer vacations.
She participated in a Television Critics Association Press Tour in Los Angeles earlier this summer to promote the show.
